Stop and Smell the Roses: miss(ed) America... (2017)

mixed media on wood and canvas (acrylic, paper, charcoal, felt, soft pastels)

Artist Statement

Miss(ed) America is the 2nd installment of the Stop and Smell the Roses series. It speaks to the Black and Brown women who have shaped this country, but whose efforts, sacrifices, and oftentimes, beauty, still remain invisible. Like the 1st installment, paintings were named after words in the following poem.

Part II:

hope

perseverance

strength

all needed in these times

a fighter

a dreamer

a believer

a carrier

of precious jewels

a warrior

royalty

treasured.
